Ballarat's fuel comes by road from the terminals around Melbourne and Geelong, about 115 km away. Even so, since April 2026 its average unleaded price has sat about a cent below Melbourne's, and it moves with the capital's from day to day.
Across September 2026 the cheaper stations were in central Ballarat, Ballarat North and Alfredton, around 3–5¢/L under the city average. The fringe stations at Buninyong, Warrenheip and Brown Hill ran above it. On a typical day about 16¢/L separated the cheaper and dearer ends of town.
